Elizabeth Burville - Choreography, Dance and Drama, Music Theatre

Elizabeth began dancing at the age of 2, and her passion for dance and the performing arts rapidly grew as did her interest in drama, attaining all her Trinity College London Speech and Drama grades, including Grade 8, by the end of her time at high school. She continued her further education training at The Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in Sidcup, England, where she was awarded Associate Teaching qualifications in ISTD Ballet, Modern and later on, Tap.

Elizabeth has since enjoyed a varied and successful career as a performer, mainly in the field of Dance and Musical Theatre, appearing in films such as “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”, musicals including “Hello Dolly” with Carol Channing, and numerous tours with “The Tiller Girls”, “The Minstrel Maids” and shows including the “Worzel Gummidge” national tour. She also worked extensively as a Principal Dancer/Singer aboard the QE2 and was privileged enough to work with many leading choreographers such as Irving Davies, Dougie Squires, Peter Gordeno and Sheila Holt, as well as working with international stars from cabaret and television.

In 1987 Elizabeth set up her own dance centre based in Bexley, England. Pupils can study all forms of Dance as well as Drama, Singing and Musical Theatre and many past pupils are now established professional performers and teachers. After achieving ISTD Licentiate and Fellowship teaching status, Elizabeth was invited to join the ISTD New Development Group to create new work for the Modern Theatre Syllabus and to become an ISTD examiner. She now examines both throughout the UK and overseas and has represented the ISTD with lectures at Congress, and by conducting open and competition classes primarily in Jazz. She has also adjudicated dance festivals and choreographic competitions and regularly lectures in a broad range of subjects including Classical Ballet, Musical Theatre Repertoire and History, Choreography, Jazz and Tap.

As well as teaching and examining, Elizabeth is an experienced choreographer, her work includes television commercials for Bernard Matthew’s Turkey Burgers, “Clorets” with Hale and Pace and Ariel Ultra Washing Powder! Television plays include a play starring Gina Magee called “White Girls on Dope”, which featured choreography of the 1920’s. Many musicals include “Into the Woods”, “The Biograph Girl” “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Annie” and “Godspell”, touring shows and pantomimes throughout the country. She set up her own production company “In the Wings” Productions in 1998 and has produced children’s musicals, christmas pantomimes, children’s drama and musical theatre workshops and Theatre in Education projects throughout the South East of England. “In the Wings” has been the Training Provider for Dartford Youth Theatre since 2003,  and in 2004 the Company collaborated with “Insight Theatre” company to take a new piece -“The Odd Sock Rock” - to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

In 2000, the Dance Centre expanded to commence with a Higher Education Performing Arts course. The College was named “The Millennium Musical Theatre College” and today provides numerous full-time courses for post 16’s in the field of Musical Theatre, Dance, Drama and Dance Teaching.

Elizabeth was invited onto the Board of Trinity Examiners in 2003, and specialises in examining Musical Theatre, Drama and Speech.
