Maggie Young Maggie is British, attended the Manchester High School of Art, perhaps the first and last state school in Britain devoted to the Arts, and she still believes that the Arts are at the centre of learning. She trained as a teacher and then worked in London at the end of the Sixties and then began her international teaching career in Hong Kong at this time. Travelling in Asia at that time developed in her a respect for non-Western theatre, both for its relevance in community life and its discipline. Maggie has worked as a teacher of drama in all three IB programmes in Austria, Singapore, Switzerland and Nigeria. She is also the founding Director of the Danube International School, Vienna, an IB school with a strong focus on the Arts. She is now working as a consultant to help teachers develop and extend their drama programmes, both in national and international educative systems. Maggie’s belief in the teacher’s role in the creation of ‘life-long learners’ is modelled by her own behaviour; she is presently working on a Masters Degree in Art History. |
