The girls had a wonderful morning and they all felt that they benefited greatly from your help and support, so thank you once again! I am sure that I will be in touch for some more help. LB, London, UK
This is just to say thank you so much for a great weekend. The workshop was excellent and it really helped everyone in the department to start focusing on things more clearly. The idea for us of having it at school was extremely successful and I can pass on the message from the whole department who feel very motivated after this inspiring weekend, and I know that I learned an enormous amount from this experience. Thanks again. JA, Switzerland

Musical Web Rebecca Agnew looks at developments in music-related web sites
Another relative newcomer in cyberspace is www.artsinsight.net, a web-based international consultancy supplying professional development and support for the performing arts and particularly in education.
The company is the brainchild of director Jonathan Newell, and reflects his own established and varied career - a Durham University graduate and former organ scholar, Newell has worked throughout the UK as well as in Norway, Cairo and Vienna as an organist, choir trainer, educationalist, examiner, accompanist, conductor, voice coach, adjudicator and music theatre MD.
As he explains on the site, Newell set up the consultancy as he is 'convinced that there is a growing need for a greater formality of collaboration between academics, artists and schools with a deeper practice-led provision of professional development for teachers and workshops for students'.
To assist him in delivering these services, Newell has employed more than a dozen carefully selected consultants who between them have extensive experience in all areas of education and music and the performing arts, including dance and drama.
The company offers a range of services including Inset for music and theatre arts teachers; International Baccalaureate music and theatre arts workshops for teachers; workshops and presentations for students and amateur groups; music masterclasses; lectures and presentations for societies, organisations and conferences; plus a selection of other musical services, such as providing accompanists, adjudicators, guest conductors, organists and music theatre directors.
Teacher workshops are wide ranging to cover many aspects of curriculum, department, personal and artistic development. Topics on offer include budgeting, concert management, music technology, Ofsted inspections and visiting instrumental teachers. Workshops aimed at students are available too and take in areas such as performance skills and presentation, film composition and accompaniment skills.
In addition, www.artsinsight.net offers consultation lessons for prospective conservatoire and university music students, which is proving particularly useful for non- UK students. A full consultation with a mock audition and opportunity to discuss performance standard requirements, course choice and suitability costs around £150 in the London area. A more general consultation costs £80 per hour while telephone and email consultations provide cheaper alternatives.
Newell and his fellow consultants are willing to travel worldwide to deliver their services, and this is reflected in the plaudits cited on the website, which come from as far afield as Switzerland Poland, Latvia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and New Zealand. |
