The official list of Powys County Councillors who voted FOR and AGAINST the switch-off. On the 23rd of October 2008, there was a full council meeting at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, during which, amongst other matters (such as councillors awarding themselves pay increases) the issue of the switching off of Powys’ street lights was discussed. It was acknowledged that there was a “Public Outcry” about the decision to turn off upto 67% of the street lights throughout Powys and there were calls for a moratorium on the programme together with one for the urgent restoration of lights in areas where “public safety [had] clearly been compromised”. Despite a number of Councillors speaking of complaints they had received in their
communities as a result of the programme to switch off 67% of street lights and
arguing that the public were being put at risk, the motion to continue with the
programme was, somewhat unbelievably, supported by 38 votes for, to 25 against. How did your local Councillor vote? For the switch-off or against it?
